Neuchâtel: Two young people killed trying to escape control

A patrol tried to control a car, but given its speed, they quickly lost sight of it, only to find it later in an accident on the H10.

Two young people aged 19 and 21 lost their lives in a car accident this morning in Boveresse (NE). According to the Public Ministry and the Neuchâtel cantonal police, the tragedy occurred on the H10, at the height of the Combes swimming pool. The two occupants were found dead at the scene of the accident.

The Neuchâtel police were alerted around 1:30 a.m. this morning. “Shortly before this announcement made via the Neuchâtel emergency centre, while a patrol was observing traffic in St-Sulpice, a vehicle traveling on the rue de la Place d’Armes in Fleurier left in the direction of Boveresse. at high speed”, details the Public Ministry.

Lost view

“The patrol tried to control the said vehicle, but, given the speed of the latter, quickly lost sight of it at the height of the roundregarding of the goat bridge, in Fleurier”, report the investigators. Searches were carried out in the surroundings and as far as the village of Couvet, “without success”, according to the police.

Shortly following, a villager reported a fire that had occurred below the cantonal road. “At the scene of the incident, it was found that this same vehicle was engulfed in flames”, informs the Neuchâtel police. The driver and a passenger were found dead near the crashed vehicle.

In the region

Both victims lived in the area. On the spot, a major rescue device was deployed, in particular the SDIS Valtra, with ten men and five vehicles. The Neuchâtel police intervened with three patrols as well as an investigator from the forensic service of the judicial police.

The H10 was closed for the time of the report and was able to be reopened shortly before 4 a.m. The duty prosecutor has opened an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of this tragedy.
