A network outage has paralyzed air traffic to and from Eindhoven Airport this morning. No plane can land or take off, causing thousands of travelers to be affected. The Netherlands’ second airport handles dozens of international flights every day.

Eindhoven Airport is currently working on a thorough renewal of its IT infrastructure. The airport wants to install the most modern networks and systems. Many new technologies are waiting to be applied. Migrations are being carried out. The airport is currently innovating parts of its IT infrastructure, including networking, firewalling, servers, virtualisation platforms and cloud solutions.

The organization has more than a hundred applications, over 120 information screens, dozens of kilometers of fiber optic, hundreds of network connections, more than 75 workstations and a hybrid infrastructure including its own data centers.

It is still unclear how long the outage will last and what exactly the cause is. The information boards say ‘delay’ after each flight.

Problems elsewhere too

Since yesterday evening, various ministries and government services that use the Defense Network have also been experiencing major network disruptions. DigiD is also experiencing difficulties. It is not known whether these problems are related to the disruption at Eindhoven Airport.

At Defence, employees are experiencing login problems. In some cases, the service is suffering because some telephone numbers are not reachable. Other departments that use the Defence network are also experiencing problems. Emergency services are reporting problems with their communication and alarm system. Due to the malfunction, the P2000 alarm system and the C2000 communication system are working less well. This makes mutual communication more difficult. The emergency services involved now have to call or keep in touch via text message. C2000 also had to deal with a major failure a year ago.
