Netflix has been very proactive in disclosing to the media or public channels that it will start cracking down on account holders at the beginning of this year. Several weeks following the beginning of this year, Netflix also brought up the incident once more. The foreign website gHacks found that Netflix’s FAQ has added relatedpage, mentioning how they prevent users from sharing Netflix accounts. The relevant webpage mentioned that Netflix will use IP address, device ID, activity on the device, etc. to detect whether the user has a shared account.
If Netflix finds that a new device is logged in at a non-account owner’s home or main place (Netflix household), or if the user’s account is logged in at a place other than home for a long time, the account owner needs to authenticate. Netflix will send an email regarding the verification link to the email registered by the account owner. The account owner needs to click the link in the email, and a set of numbers will be displayed. The new device needs to enter the relevant number within 15 minutes before it can continue to be used.
According to gHacks reports, the Netflix household method defined by Netflix is that the relevant device needs to be in a major place (such as your own house) with Wi-Fi, and the relevant device will be regarded as a Netflix household by logging in at least once every 31 days. The authentication devices (trusted devices) under the above-mentioned authentication steps do not need to be performed. If the user often watches Netflix away from home, the relevant account may be blocked and an authentication step is required to confirm it before it can be used. It is worth mentioning that the Netflix website seems to have removed the definition of Netflix household devices following the report went out.
