Netflix wants to start monetize your gaming platform following more than two years of releasing regular titles. According to people who have access to the streaming platform’s plans, the company has two options “on the table”.
The first is to allow in-app purchases, meaning players need to pay for items and even character skins.
This change in format should serve to cover the cost of developing proprietary games, with market analysts believing that Netflix has already spent around US$1 billion when venturing into this new segment.
The second option that has been studied by Netflix involves displaying ads within games, and this would be limited to users who pay for the most basic plan with ads.
Currently, Netflix has around 86 games available in its catalog and the company intends to incorporate a series of new titles in 2024, despite only 1% of subscribers accessing the games.
Last but not least, Netflix also wants to bring games to Smart TVs, allowing users to use their smartphones as controls. The new feature is under development and has already appeared in the application code.
However, as the platform did not comment on the matter, everything remains just another market rumor.
