Netflix announced new rules for sharing passwords for a single account, there are four countries that started to operate the new rules, Canada, New Zealand, Spain and Portugal. There are more than 100 million households that share service passwords, according to the company. This sharing has been affecting the financial result of the platform, which in 2022 had regarding 90% in profit reduction, when compared to the previous year.
In the four countries already announced, users will have to pay to give account access to other people who do not live together. The rules still limit the number of external people who can receive access to the account, on a paid basis. It’s only two people for the Standard or Premium plans.
Prices were released by country, each new account access will cost 7.99 New Zealand dollars, 7.99 Canadian dollars, 3.99 euros for Portugal and 5.99 euros for Spain.
This idea is not new to Netflix, there were several announcements made by the company, there was a time when it was tested in countries here in Latin America, at the beginning of the year it was announced that there would be this charge, including starting soon, which has actually happened.
Netflix also disclosed that not all countries will have the same rules, that said, nothing has been released regarding Brazil, either period or if the rules really come into effect here too. It is known that prices for streaming services have become expensive for Brazilians, given the number of services available to subscribe to at the same time.
Some platforms do not have this practice of going following those who share passwords, perhaps because they are not experiencing the drastic reduction in profit that Netflix presented last year.
