A source close to Netflix assured to The Hollywood Reporter that tape “Fast and Loose” which would be starring Will Smith on said platform, has been put in the background after the slap that the actor gave to Chris Rock during the oscar awards ceremonyheld last Sunday.
A week before this happened, the director David Leitchwho was already part of the project, decided to give up the film to direct “Fall Guy”a film that will star Ryan Gosling for Universal Pictureswhose production is expected to start next month August.
At the time, Netflix made an urgent call for another director to take over “Fast and Loose” because they were sure that yes Will Smith won the golden statuette for Best Actor at the Oscars, the project would be seen highly favored. However, shortly after the Smith’s Attack on Rockthe company decided to quietly move the project to a background.
“Fast and Loose” would tell the story of a criminal leader who loses his memory during an attack. Gathering clues, he discovers that he has had a dual identity as a wealthy and powerful criminal, and a bankrupt CIA agent.
So far, it is unknown if Netflix will seek to continue with the project with another protagonist and directoror if you have decided to permanently cancel the tape.
Two more projects would be in doubt
For now, “Emancipation” an action thriller film also starring Smith, directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by William N. Collage and produced by Apple+remains in post production. The company had scheduled its premiere for this year, however, they have not provided a position on the subject.
Another movie that was in active development was “Bad Boys 4” from Sony Pictures. Smith received 40 pages of the script before the Oscar awardsbut now it’s on pauseaccording to information revealed by a source close to the production.
In his statement on April 1, after resigning from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and SciencesSmith said: “Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I will never again allow violence to trump reason.”
