A Netflix announced today that the resource Profile Transfer now allows users to migrate all their data to existing accounts. Previously, it was only possible to transfer profile preferences to new accounts.
The feature, for those who don’t remember, was launched in October 2022 and served as a preliminary step before Netflix “fighted” password sharing — which, here at Brazilrequires payment of R$13 for each “extra subscriber”.
With Profile Transfer, the user has the chance to transfer important data such as his watch history, personalized recommendations, saved items in My List and games to another account. The requirement to create a new account, in turn, was considered one of the biggest limitations of the feature.
Now, when initiating a transfer by clicking on the profile icon, the user can specify whether he wants to import his data into a new or existing account. If the second option is chosen, just enter the email and password of the account in question and continue with the process.
According to Netflix, the user will be notified by email when the transfer is complete.
It is important to note that users who do not reside in the same household as the account holder, but wish to transfer their profiles, will be added as additional members and the corresponding monthly subscription fee will be charged as usual.
Still, while many questioned Netflix’s decision to restrict password sharing between users who don’t live in the same household, the streaming platform has seen a significant increase in daily subscriptions.
according to a antenna search, a few days after the announcement of the new rules, the service had about 100 thousand new registrations in the United States alone. The news also sent the company’s stock soaring to a 52-week high.
