Netflix is turning its new spy movie “The Gray Man” into a franchise, announcing today its plans to make a new part of the movie starring Ryan Gosling.
The company said the movie, one of Netflix’s most expensive films to date, began airing on Friday and was the most-watched on its streaming service in 92 countries.
Gosling stars in the film as Sierra Six, a former inmate who was released from prison by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in exchange for being recruited into a secret program.
Netflix said in a statement that work is currently underway with Gosling and directors Joe and Anthony Russo to produce a sequel to the film. The company also announced a separate movie, but did not provide details on the story or characters. Completing “The Gray Man” is part of Netflix’s strategy to create brands with recognizable characters who can play roles in films, television series and video games.
