Netflix for iOS gets a new, more fluid interface

A Netflix recently released an update to its iOS app with an overhaul of the interface, which features new, smoother animations, including parallax effects to move elements as the user moves the iPhone/iPad.

When opening the Netflix application on the iPhone, it is now possible to view a large card promoting a movie or series available on the platform. Just like before, if you tap on a movie or show, the skin expands to show every detail regarding it.

It’s also now even easier to filter content by category, switch between profiles or even use search, no matter where in the app you’re browsing. The “In Queue” tab was also redesigned and includes both future releases of the platform and recommended content for the user.

Former Netflix user interface designer Janum Trivedi, who worked on the app’s new interface, shared a short video on Twitter showing off what’s new.

Last year, I led a UI update to make Netflix more fluid, enjoyable, and polished.
Today, all this work released!
Thank you very much @nebson e @b3ll for helping bring this to life. ❤️
Details below, but try it for yourself!

Among the new features, the latest update to the Netflix app includes:

  • New featured movie/series layout that responds as you move your phone, with a subtle lighting effect;
  • Background gradients created in real time from the art of the film/series;
  • New fully interruptible/interactive card transition;
  • New launch/profile animations and haptic feedback.

Lastly, Trivedi suggested that the streaming giant is also “giving some love” to the Apple TV version of its app. Thus, everything indicates that Netflix will also have a new interface for tvOS soon.
