Netflix ad-supported plan will have downloads and less advertising

One year following the launch of the plan with advertisements, the Netflix released some news regarding the streaming service subscription option. Despite having generated negative reactions when presented, the plan, according to the company, currently has 15 million of active users.

An interesting reformulation that will begin to be introduced in first quarter of 2024 is the display of fewer ads when watching series episodes successively. The service will understand user behavior and, when “marathoning” a series, for every three episodes with ads, one without will be shown.

Something that plan subscribers will have access to this week is the possibility of download films and series. Until now, this ability was restricted to ad-free options. With the change, according to the company, Netflix will be the only streaming service to offer an -supported plan that allows you to download content to watch offline.

It is also worth remembering that the plan had the maximum resolution at which films and series can be seen raised to 1080p; previously the limit was 720p. The company also began offering advertisers shorter ad options, lasting 10 and 20 seconds, as well as another one lasting one minute. These and other new features should attract even more subscribers to Netflix’s most affordable plan.

The company also announced other changes that, although they do not directly impact the use of the service, should be noticed by users. Starting in the United States in 2024, Netflix will offer sponsorships directly associated with titles on the platform, becoming, in one way or another, more similar to television.

This way, the brands that sponsor them will be displayed alongside the titles of the films and series. Netflix said it has already started showing such ads in some titles; There will also be other types of interactive sponsorship and the display of QR codes in advertisements. The company also said it is improving its measurement capabilities, including in partnership with Microsoft.
