Israeli PRIME Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested that the United Nations (UN) withdraw UNIFIL troops from the Southern Lebanon region. The Indonesian government takes this seriously.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi ensured that Indonesia would not be afraid of Israel’s attacks and demands to withdraw UN peacekeeping personnel in Lebanon.
Retno asked the US as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to act decisively to ensure UNIFIL can continue to carry out its vital duties in South Lebanon.

“Violations of international law that continue to occur without significant consequences are a serious problem, which undermines the credibility of the UN Security Council,” he said.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs at the ASEAN Summit in Laos last week and the Indonesian delegation at the UN during the UNSC meeting in the last few days have emphasized again that Indonesia will continue to support Unifil to carry out and fulfill its mandate in accordance with UNSC resolution 1701,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As the 5th largest contributor to UN peacekeeping forces in the world and the largest in UNIFIL, Indonesia will always support UN peacekeeping missions in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. “So the Indonesian contingent that is part of UNIFIL will continue to carry out its mandate,” he said.
Apart from that, Roy added that Indonesia’s position remains consistent in continuing to emphasize that the issue of safety and security of UN blue helmet Peacekeeping personnel is a shared responsibility of all parties. (Z-2)
