Netanyahu takes office as Prime Minister of Israel; The region is expected to be volatile Benjamin Netanyahu returns as PM of Israel’s most far-right gov’t

Jerusalem: Binyamin Netanyahu has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of Israel. He is the longest serving Prime Minister of the country. He has been the Prime Minister from 1996-1999 and from 2009 to 2021.

In his inauguration speech, he said that ending the Arab-Israeli conflict was a top priority. He added that curbing Iran’s nuclear program and strengthening Israel’s military are also under consideration.

Meanwhile, Palestinians are worried regarding Netanyahu’s return to power. A day before taking office, Netanyahu announced that expanding immigration into the occupied West Bank would be a priority. He came to power by forming alliances with extreme right-wing and ultra-nationalist parties.

Political observers indicate that the region will become tense. Earlier, when Netanyahu ruled, widespread violence was unleashed in Palestine.

2022 was the bloodiest year in Palestine following 2006. The continuous raids of the Israeli army in the West Bank and the resistance of the Palestinians lead to the conflict. This year alone, the Israeli army killed 220 Palestinians, including more than 50 children and 17 women.
