Netanyahu says he has received threats –

JERUSALEM (EFE).— Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took advantage of the shock caused by the assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump to denounce threats against him, his family, associates and other ministers, claiming that the massive protests demanding his resignation also constitute “damage to democracy.”

“We are witnessing an avalanche of explicit threats of murder and violence against the prime minister and members of his family, against ministers, against lawmakers. These are not only criminal offenses, but they constitute a direct and explicit threat to democracy,” Netanyahu said in a video message sent to journalists by his own office.

The threats against officials “did not happen gradually. They happened when we returned to power and then continued with great intensity,” Netanyahu said, adding that this includes demonstrations against his rule that have gathered near his official residence, as well as protests in Tel Aviv against the judicial reform he pushed for to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

“The theme is changing every time, but it is directed against the law and the application of the law,” Netanyahu said. “And this is strengthened because the limits are constantly being tested.”

Demand for a ceasefire

Foreign Secretary David Lammy called for an immediate end to the conflict.

Time to stop

Britain’s new foreign secretary said the fire in the Gaza Strip must stop immediately. “Our message is clear: we need an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, the protection of civilians, unrestricted access to aid in Gaza and a path to a two-state solution,” he wrote on social media.
