Details: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the strike was in response to Israel’s killings of militant leaders and aggression in Lebanon against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group and in the Gaza Strip.

Literally Reuters: “Fears that Iran and the United States will be drawn into a regional war have risen as Israel intensified its attack on Lebanon over the past two weeks, including the launch of a ground offensive on Monday, and the summer conflict in the Gaza Strip.”

Details: Iran fired more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel during Tuesday’s attack, Israel said.

Iranian forces have used Fattah hypersonic missiles for the first time, and 90% of the missiles successfully hit targets in Israel, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said.

Israeli air defenses were activated and most of the missiles were intercepted by “Israel and the defense coalition led by the United States,” Israeli Rear Admiral and IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said, adding that “Iran’s attack is a serious and dangerous escalation.”

He said central Israel suffered a “small number” of strikes and there were additional strikes in southern Israel.

US President Joe Biden expressed full support for Israel and called the Iranian attack “ineffective.” He said there were active discussions about how Israel would respond and that he would consult with Netanyahu.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, supported Biden’s position and said the United States will not hesitate to defend its interests against Iran.

Israel promised consequences for the attack.

“We will act. Iran will soon feel the consequences of its actions. The reaction will be painful,” Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon told reporters.
