The Nestroy Prizes will be awarded on Sunday evening at the Vienna Volkstheater. For the 24th time, outstanding stage productions and artists from the past theater season in Austria as well as the best performance in the German-speaking region will be honored. ORF III will broadcast the gala, moderated by Nadja Bernhard and Peter Fässlacher, with a time delay from 9:05 p.m.

Two prize winners have already been chosen: Long-time Volkstheater director Emmy Werner (85) will receive the Lifetime Achievement Prize, and the author Thomas Perle, who was born in Romania in 1987 and lives in Vienna, will be honored with the Author Prize for his play “karpatenflecken”, which premiered in the Burgtheater vestibule. In a further eleven categories, the winners will only be announced on stage.

Castle actress Birgit Minichmayr, Valery Tscheplanowa, who impressed in “Nathan the Wise” at the Salzburg Festival, and Julia Kreusch from the Lower Austria State Theater can all hope for a Nestroy Prize for Best Actress. Among the nominees for the best actor are Frieder Langenberger for his role in “Bunbury” at the Schauspielhaus Graz, the castle actor and this year’s “Everyman” Michael Maertens and Alexander Pschill for his role in “The Great Dictator” in the theater’s Kammerspiele in der Josefstadt. The Nestroy ORF III audience award winner was determined in an online vote.
