Néstor Lorenzo began his process as coach of the Colombian National Team with triumph, thrashing Guatemala 4-1 in the first friendly with the Argentine coach in charge of the national coffee team.
After directing his first match, Lorenzo spoke to the press and his first reaction was surprise at James Rodríguez’s play.
“The James thing surprised even me,” was Lorenzo’s first sentence. “We know that he is not at his best in continuity, but nobody can deny his conditions and the quality that he has. He had a very good attitude, like the whole team, that makes us happy”, he added.
Lorenzo also spoke regarding the mixture of experienced players with youngsters: “The biggest players are important to consolidate the youngsters. It is not the same if these guys are not there, they have experience and were in charge of taking this Colombian National Team to the top, since they take the pressure off the youngsters. For me, that was clear, but you don’t know until it happens. It was a good debut for some guys; I hope they continue like this”.
About Mexico, the next rival, the coach assured: “We are going to see it, since we only have two days to recover, it will be once morest a World Cup team that has quality players. Our objective is that we are pointing towards the beginning of this process; so beyond the result, which is important and we will go with everything, we have to wait to see what happens these days and we will look at this upcoming commitment”.
