Celebrating the 30th anniversary of its factory in El Jadida, Nestlé Morocco is called upon to intensify its investments in the local market. According to the statements of its general manager, new projects are in the pipeline.
“Several years ago, the Nestlé group made choices, which led to a distribution of the production map more favorable to other countries than to Morocco. The time has come for us to work together, so that the group can benefit from all the developments experienced by the Moroccan industrial platform”. These are the words of Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Nestlé Morocco factory in El Jadida.
It is, indeed, a solemn appeal to the Nestlé group, present in Morocco for almost 100 years, to accentuate its presence on the market. The government official noted that there is joint work to be done to continue opening markets for Nestlé in Morocco and installing new production lines of the group, which are already present in other countries.
Mezzour assured in this sense that “there is still a long way to go, it has not always been rosy with Nestlé in Morocco. There were early ambitions that were countered, we must bring them back! Nestlé Morocco has a motivated, committed team, which I’m sure will work hand in hand with the ministry to identify new projects. The next few years for Nestlé will be even more intense, more innovative and more job-creating for our country”.
In any case, the tone has been set, Nestlé is called upon to intensify its investments in the country. But while waiting for new announcements, Nestlé, present in Morocco since 1927, has invested 630 MDH during the last 10 years. Today, the company employs 428 people on its premises and another 7,500 indirectly across the country. It should be noted that the company collaborates with 70 entities in order to distribute its products within 85,000 points of sale divided between grocery stores, pharmacies and catering industries.
Its offer includes key brands such as Nescafé, Nesquik, Chocapic, Cheerios, Gold Corn Flakes, Fitness, Nan, Nido, Nativa and PreNan. For its part, inaugurated in 1992, the Nestlé factory in El Jadida manufactures different ranges of coffee, enriched whole milk powder and growing-up milk. All these products are aligned with the strictest safety and quality standards, in accordance with the standards set by international certification bodies.
Also certified for its environmental management, the plant has successfully achieved zero waste and hosted the city’s first solar power plant in 2021. The facility alone produces 1.7 GWh of electricity per year from a plot of 7,000 m2, housing nearly 2,600 photovoltaic panels.
The celebration of the plant’s 30th anniversary took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, the governor of the province, Mohammed El Guerrouj, as well as the Swiss ambassador to Morocco, Guillaume Scheurer.
