Bring down the controversy. Nestlé ensures, Thursday, March 31, that tests carried out on its site in Caudry (Nord), which produces pizzas of the Buitoni brand, including some were contaminated with E. coli, are negative. Seventy-five samples were taken from the production line concerned.
The company had closed the two production lines of the factory and had recalled on March 18 all the pizzas of the Fraîch’Up range after the identification of a possible link with contaminations with E. coli. “The priority is to find the cause of the contamination”said Pierre-Alexandre Teulié, general manager of communication for Nestlé France.
Photos of a soiled production line, broadcast in May 2021 on the Mr Mondialisation website and taken up on Thursday by RMCactually appear to have been taken within the factory, acknowledged Pierre-Alexandre Teulie. Most “what they show does not represent the normal, usual or acceptable condition of the plant”.
“If this corresponds to a reality”it could only be specific situations, “after a breakdown” Where “during the cleaning process”he said, noting that unannounced checks carried out in September 2020 and March 2021 had not revealed any deviation from the regulations.
The CGT agrifood federation for its part deplored a reorganization of the factory in 2015 which, according to it, affected hygiene. “Since then, the cleaning time has been reduced and carried out by less well-trained people”, underlined Maryse Treton, member of the union. Nestlé said lines were deep-cleaned for five hours after a maximum of 27 hours of production.
