NEOS to Rauch: Ending the reform backlog in the health system

Fiedler: “If this republic is not to suffocate due to the inability to reform, then this federal government must give it more breathing room.”

Vienna (OTS) “If this republic is not to suffocate due to the inability to reform, then this federal government must give it more breathing room,” responded NEOS health spokeswoman Fiona Fiedler to the ORF press hour. “Johannes Rauch must follow his words with actions, because good intentions are not enough. It must not be the case that the insured have to pay double or triple in order to receive adequate care. People simply need to be assured that they will be treated quickly and properly. This security does not exist.” Many people are currently dependent on additional private insurance because there are not enough cash registers available. “There are not too few doctors – the distribution system to the health insurance offices does not work. We have to make the general conditions more attractive for statutory health insurance doctors so that on the one hand they are relieved of their workload and on the other hand they can also have more time for their patients.”

Austria has one of the most expensive healthcare systems in an international comparison, said Fiedler. So it’s not just a lack of financing, but also a lack of resources that are sometimes incorrectly distributed. “Pumping more and more tax money into an ailing system without paying attention to where it is really needed does not improve care. “So on the one hand we have to use the resources in a more targeted manner, and on the other hand we have to end the backlog of reforms and reduce bureaucracy, for example when it comes to opening new primary care centers,” said the NEOS health spokeswoman.

Fiedler describes the minister’s statement that the pension system is secure as a “reckless denial of reality”: “The numbers prove: the pay-as-you-go system no longer works. Billions must already be allocated from the budget for pensions. Austria needs a pension revolution that turns the completely ailing pension system inside out, because anyone who doesn’t think ahead now is complicit in a massive theft of the future from the next generations.”
