NEOS to Karmasin: Finally end structural corruption

Krisper: “The courts take action against structural corruption. Politics must follow suit NOW.”

Vienna (OTS) “Politicians must take what the courts are now dealing with as an impetus in order to prevent structural corruption in the future. The last two sub-committees have worked out what machinations were being done in Austrian politics – and are being done,” says Stephanie Krisper, NEOS spokeswoman for internal affairs and sub-committee leader. “Now the reforms must follow!”

‘Ibiza’ is still possible. It should have been a wake-up call, according to Krisper: “A wake-up call to finally put an end to structural corruption in Austria, to regain people’s trust and to make politics cleaner overall. Instead, Ibiza will remain a guide to action in the future, how to ignore the rule of law and live out corruption shamelessly.”

In the future, however, corruption should no longer be a question of timing. The responsible Minister of Justice, Alma Zadic, must therefore take the criticism seriously and use the review period for the turquoise-green anti-corruption law to close the gaps that still exist in the draft law, demands the NEOS parliamentary group leader. Also, no more money should flow in connection with political mandates.

Krisper: “The corruption investigators in the interior and justice ministries must finally be given the resources to fight rampant corruption. Otherwise a criminal offense makes sense. We have also been waiting far too long for many other structural reforms that have long been promised but not yet implemented. The government must finally step up its game when it comes to transparency and the rule of law – whether it’s the Freedom of Information Act, the independent federal prosecutor’s office or government advertisements. Because so far, turquoise-green has done nothing relevant to enable citizens to experience the clean politics to which they are entitled.”
