Shetty: “We must not be blind in the defense of our liberal democracy.”
Vienna (OTS) – After it became known that an alleged Islamist-motivated attack had been thwarted at the rainbow parade, NEOS LGBTIQ spokesman Yannick Shetty appealed: “We mustn’t give radicalization and terror a millimeter of space. Our free, liberal society, celebrated yesterday by hundreds of thousands of people, must not be intimidated by hatred and the cowardly game of fear and uncertainty. We remain steadfast and defensive once morest all forces that endanger our democracy and free society. And we must not be blind in any way.”
According to Shetty, the LGBTIQ community is a popular enemy for extremists. “Values such as cosmopolitanism, self-determination and diversity have made us strong as a society. We must uphold these values. The danger of Islamist-motivated attacks on the community has been increasing for years. Here it is already necessary to rely on preventive educational and de-radicalization work, as is already happening increasingly in Vienna.” Thanks also go to the emergency services, who acted quickly and ensured the safety of the Pride visitors.
