NEOS on Causa Kika/Leiner: Minister of Finance “not sure” whether taxpayers will get their money back

Doppelbauer: “The opaque system COFAG shoveled 9 million euros in tax money to the already counted Kika / Leiner group.”

Vienna (OTS) On the occasion of today’s creditors’ meeting in the Kika/Leiner case, NEOS budget spokeswoman Karin Doppelbauer pointed out a current query from Finance Minister Brunner. “This shows once once more that the federal government has carried out millions in aid with inadequate checks by the financial authorities via the non-transparent construct of COFAG. Despite media reports on potential financial difficulties, the Kika/Leiner Group was provided with more than 9 million euros in tax money. And the finance minister is ‘not sure’ taxpayers will ever get that money back.”

The inquiry also shows that the tax deferrals from Kika/Leiner were also opaque. The Minister of Finance might not or did not want to answer the question conclusively as to whether and which security deposits were granted by the Republic for the approx. 40 million euros in tax deferrals. “In view of this insolvency, it seems particularly explosive that around one billion euros in tax deferrals were still outstanding as of December 2022, because the finance minister openly admits in his answer that he does not know how many companies were actually required to provide collateral for the deferrals Minister of Finance must now do everything possible to ensure smooth processing,” concluded Doppelbauer.
