Hoyos: “The great interest in our public pre-election process shows how many people are working with us for a strong and self-determined Europe.”

Vienna (OTS) – The European Parliament election will take place in Austria on June 9, 2024. NEOS are convinced that more people from the middle of society are needed in politics. In contrast to all other parties, the lists of candidates are drawn up in a transparent, three-stage pre-election process. The public pre-election stage 1 starts on Monday, January 15th, in which everyone who has reached the age of 16 and has Austrian citizenship or whose main residence is in Austria will join the 62 applicants via the pre-election platform vorwahl.neos.eu can award points.

NEOS General Secretary Douglas Hoyos is pleased regarding the great interest in the public pre-election process following a record turnout among applicants: “While rejections are piling up from other parties, people are knocking down our door. Even before the start of the public primary election, over 900 people registered and verified on our primary election platform. This is not only a clear sign of openness and active participation at NEOS. It also shows how many people want to stand up to the nationalists together with us and work for a strong and self-determined Europe.”

Further process until the list creation is completed

Public voting runs from January 15, 12:00 p.m. to January 24, 12:00 p.m. The points awarded are then divided by the number of participating pre-selecters (“weighted points”). Pre-election stage 2 will then take place on January 25th, in which the Extended Board will also award points. Stage 3 will then take place at the NEOS general meeting on January 27th, and the final list for the European elections will result from the weighted points of all three stages added together.
