NEOS: Austria is heavily involved in financing the new Russian private army

Doppelbauer: “We finally need clear decisions on phasing out Russian gas!

Vienna (OTS) “Putin has been raging in Ukraine for more than a year now, Thursday night was another night of terror – and Austria continues to finance all the war crimes,” criticizes NEOS energy spokeswoman Karin Doppelbauer. “Last year Austria transferred more than 8 billion euros to Gazprom. As international media reports, Gazprom is financing a private army that is already deployed in Ukraine. There is certainly also money from Austria in it. This is unbearable.”

Carrying neutrality in front of you like a monstrance and at the same time transferring billions to warmongers month following month is not an option, said Doppelbauer. “Anyone who is still more than 70 percent dependent on Russian gas following more than a year of war is anything but neutral. It is therefore necessary – both in terms of security policy and economic policy – that the federal government makes the clear decision to gradually phase out Russian gas and at the same time ensures security of supply by securing options for additional gas volumes and booking corresponding pipeline capacities for gas from the north and south and possibly also resold.”

“Since the beginning of the war, we have repeatedly put options on the table as to how gas can be brought to Austria from non-Russian sources, most recently with the proposal for a law that would enable OMV to get out of the long-term and unspeakable contracts. The federal government is still burying its head in the sand. But doing nothing is not an option. We finally expect action from the government.”
