Rental prices for homes are at an all-time high in Spain. Although mortgage payments will fall with the drop in the Euribor, which will reduce the cost of the mortgage by around 77 euros per month if we have an annual review or 42 euros if we review it every six months, renting a flat or a room in Spain remains sky-high.

In fact, some provincial capitals such as Castellón, Toledo or Soria are experiencing an unusual rise in housing prices and many mayors and regional presidents are announcing measures to regulate the rental of tourist housing in some stressed areas of Spain such as Catalonia or the Valencian Community.

The National Federation of Real Estate Associations claims that Spain is experiencing “the most serious housing crisis in the last 50 years” and data shows that half (50.01%) of the rentals managed in our country require more than one salary or income from more than one person to pay the monthly rent, according to a study carried out by this same association.

The problems with housing rentals are evident in cities with stressed areas such as Madrid, Barcelona, Tenerife or Mallorca, but a user has shared the high price of a small room in a medium-sized town in the Valencian Community that is not exactly known for its high rental prices.

“300 euros to rent this room. Not in Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia, no. In Burriana (Castellón), tits,” wrote a user on their X account (formerly Twitter) sharing a photo of a room with a small bed, a chest of drawers and a window with curtains.

One user even joked in the comments of the post about the curtains having an image of London’s Big Ben. “You can see Big Ben! Good luck,” he commented on the post.
