Neighbors helped catch four extortionists from the Familia Michoacana

TIMILPAN (El Universal).— Four alleged members of the Familia Michoacana were sentenced by a judge to 47 years in prison for extorting money from the owners and employees of a scrap yard so they would not harm them.

This, after personnel from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (Fgjem) provided evidence to prove the crime of extortion.

Fernando Jerónimo Galindo, Argimiro García Gómez, Víctor Sánchez Beltrán and José Luis Piña Zaragoza were sentenced by a judge to remain in prison for almost five decades, after a year ago in August 2023 they showed up at a scrap metal business located in the Bucio community, in the municipality of Timilpan, where they demanded money from the employees in exchange for not causing them harm.

The investigation by the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office determined that the four men went to the scrap metal business and presented themselves as members of the criminal organization Familia Michoacana, in order to intimidate the victims.

Neighbors in the area became aware of this extortion and requested the presence of elements of the State of Mexico Security Secretariat (SSEM). The state police went to the scene and arrested the four men. They also seized long and short weapons, narcotics, a radio and a Volkswagen Jetta.

The detainees were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office and then transferred to the Jilotepec Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, where they were placed at the disposition of a judge, who after reviewing the evidence collected, provided and presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, sentenced them to 47 years in prison.

In addition to the prison sentence, these men will have to pay a fine of 184,138 pesos, while their civil and political rights were suspended.
