Relief organizations of the municipalities of Bello, Copacabana and Girardota, to the north of the metropolitan area, they attend several emergencies derived from the heavy rains of the last hours since the early hours of this Saturday.
According to the preliminary report delivered by the Mayor’s Office of Bello, the most critical point occurred in the channel of the La Garcia creek, that reached levels in red following overflowing and generating floods in the neighborhoods Playa Rica, La Guayana, Chinatown and El Tapón.
Alerts are also generated in neighborhoods such as Cairo and Pan American.
The flash flood inundated regarding 150 homes in the El Cairo and Playa Rica sectorsof which 66 were permanently evacuated and four preventively. The Mayor’s Office indicated that the number of victims may increase as characterizations are made.
Stiven Arango, coordinator of the Bello Fire Station also specified that two people, inhabitants of the El Tapón neighborhood, had to be transferred to health centers for a medical checkup.
Monitor more sectors
The Mayor’s Office of Bello indicated that other sectors of the municipality where there is a risk of overflowing streams are being monitored, these are the El Hato streams, sector Holy Spirit; La Loca in the sectors El Cafetal and San José Obrero; Wood in the sector new neighborhood and La García in the sector Rich Beach.
Likewise, the authorities are alert for the increase in the bed of the Medellin River at the height of the Machado Bridge, situation that led to raising the risk level to orange.
Finally, the Mayor’s Office of Bello reported that in addition to the Bello Risk Management and Fire Department, entities such as Civil Defense, the Gribyr group and the Mobility, Environment, Health and BelloAseo secretariats are responding to emergencies with personnel to do the characterization delivery of aid and provide support to families who were affected.
The same way, EPM is at the forefront of the situation dealing with energy, aqueduct and household gas networks.
Emergencies in other municipalities
The rains also caused fear in Copacabana, where several neighborhoods of the municipality were flooded. The same thing happened in Girardota, where the industrial zone also suffered damages. That was the case of the Familia company, which was flooded.
In the same town, the rollover of a vehicle on the dual carriageway of Bello Hatillo where the vehicle collided with a pole. Authorities have not reported any injuries from this accident so far.
The road to Santa Elena woke up closed
The Medellín Mobility Secretariat reported this Saturday morning that the road to the corregimiento of Santa Elena, epicenter of various events during the Flower Fair, it dawned closed by a slip.
The closure is presented at the height of the sector neighborhoods of Jesus, for which the authorities recommend taking alternate routes.
Likewise, from 8:49 am it appears passage to a lane on the road to the Western Tunnel, Las Playas sector, also by landslide.
The Aburrá Valley Early Warning System, Chartreported this Saturday morning that, during the rains on Friday, 77 electrical discharges over the Aburrá Valley. The largest number was presented in Medellín with 48 downloads, followed by Envigado and Itagüí, where 10 were registered in each one.
The entity also reported risk level increases to red in tributaries from the metropolitan area such as the Santa Elena creek, on the Retail Plaza; the La Cantera creek in the Caribbean -the one that caused the last undermining in the subway railway–; and the medellin river at the height of the Fundadores bridge, 33 and Santa Marta.
