– I think it is shameful that Frederikshavn Municipality does not comply with the decision of the Planning Appeals Board. The municipality grants dispensation following dispensation. It’s fooling us, says Lotte Broder Jørgensen.
On 21 November 2022, Frederikshavn Municipality gave permission to build a 10.5 meter high screen wall (or noise wall), which is to reduce the noise and which will stand a few meters from the neighbours.
The neighbors complained regarding that permission to the Planning Complaints Board.
A screen wall is an independent construction and not an addition to the yard.
Therefore, the Planning Complaints Board has ruled that the yard may not build a noise wall that stands in the boundary with the neighbours.
Such a construction will require a dispensation from Frederikshavn Municipality, according to the Planning Complaints Board.
And at an extraordinary meeting of the planning and environment committee, the politicians chose to say yes to granting a dispensation.
Owe the citizens
– Now this case has been going on for many years. We owe it to the citizens and the yard to make a quick decision. After all, the shipyard has been required to reduce the noise, and a noise barrier should give the neighbors better conditions, says the chairman of the planning and environment committee, Peter E. Nielsen (S).
At the same time, JOBI Shipyard received a dispensation for a so-called mobile covering, which is to be used in connection with the surface treatment of ships on the shipyard’s bed. The covering will have a total area of approx. 360 m² and a height to tilt of approximately 14 metres.
Complained regarding the noise
The neighborhood dispute in Strandby has been going on for several years.
A number of neighbors complained regarding the noise from the yard, which was previously a wooden shipyard where the noise was minimal.
Now the yard works – among other things – with maintaining ships from the Marine Home Guard.
And the neighbors of the shipyard intend to fight on.
– Frederikshavn Municipality got a hint with a cart pole from the Planning Complaints Board, but even so the politicians give a dispensation for a 10.5 meter high wall. So we are complaining once more to the Planning Complaints Board, says Lotte Broder Jørgensen.
