FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl was pleased about a “defeat for the system including experts and the combined media in the USA, the EU and here”. NEOS and the Greens were concerned.
“We look forward to further expanding and strengthening our transatlantic relationships together in order to successfully meet global challenges,” said Nehammer on the short message service X on Wednesday morning.
“And here the united election losers continue to muddle around.”
The liberal party chairman was one of the first to congratulate Austria. “The Americans have properly come to terms with the narcissistic politics of the ice-cold elites,” says Kickl’s analysis on Facebook. Even attacks from all media, “so-called ‘experts'” and political opponents could not have stopped the right policy at the end of the day. “Americans make Trump great again and Trump makes America great again,” wrote Kickl, drawing parallels to the situation in Austria: “In the USA the signs point to ‘fresh wind’, ‘new paths’ and optimism. And here the united ones are fumbling Election losers who have led our country into a dramatic negative development, on behalf of the head of state.”

Wake-up call and concern about the US election results
NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger was concerned about the election results. “It remains to be hoped that democracy will continue to remain strong in the USA as in the entire Western world. I don’t think that’s a foregone conclusion,” said Meinl-Reisinger on “self-confidently mind our own affairs”, especially with a truly common foreign, security and defense policy. “Russia is our problem, not the USA’s. That should be the biggest lesson of this morning,” said the NEOS boss.
Pink EU MP Helmut Brandstätter criticized the fact that “right-wing radicals and so-called patriots are celebrating Trump’s victory”. “Trump wants to harm Europe economically, he has often said that. The ‘patriots’ like that because they want a weak Europe.”
The Greens also spoke of a “wake-up call” for Europe. “The election in the USA shows us: If we don’t stand together in Europe, we risk our values and achievements,” warned the club’s managing director Sigrid Maurer on X and called for stronger EU cooperation, particularly on foreign, economic and climate policy issues. Maurer paid “great thanks and respect to the defeated Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her party for their committed and courageous campaign.”

She called for enhanced cooperation within the EU, particularly in areas of foreign, economic, and climate policy, to mitigate these risks.
In a related context, Maurer extended her gratitude and respect to Kamala Harris, the defeated Democratic presidential candidate, acknowledging her committed and courageous campaign. This statement reinforces the sentiment that the political landscape is critical not only for the United States but also for international relations and stability.
As discussions unfold, the international press has been vocal, suggesting that a Trump presidency could represent a significant shift in global dynamics, thereby raising alarms about potential retreats from cooperative engagements and shared values among nations.
