Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (both ÖVP) will take part in discussions with the Bavarian cabinet of Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Tuesday. The discussions focus on the topics of migration and security as well as the economy and energy supply. As part of the working visit, Nehammer and Söder as well as Karner and the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann will also hold bilateral working discussions.
According to dpa, Söder announced last week that he wanted to talk to the Austrian Chancellor primarily regarding migration policy. Söder had called for a “German pact once morest uncontrolled immigration” from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). “As friends and neighbors, we also face similar challenges when it comes to migration issues and are mainly affected by the pressure from irregular migration movements,” said Nehammer before the meeting.
