Due to his great presence, the new Director of Football at Celta de Vigo, Marco Garcés, confirmed that talks have already begun for the continuity of Renato Tapia. His contract ends in June of this year.
Although at first it seemed that he did not fit into Rafael Benítez’s plans, Renato Tapia’s season at Celta de Vigo is going from less to more and he has become one of the most important footballers in this stage of LaLiga, in where they are located in box 17 with 16 points, one unit away from the relegation zone. A clear example of this was not only reflected in his influence in the recent victory over Betis (2-1), but also in the desire that the leadership has to retain him.
In the presentation of Marco Garcés, new Director of Football of the ‘Celtics’, the media consulted him regarding the continuity of the national midfielder, taking into account that his contract expires in June of this year. In response to these questions, the Mexican confirmed that a dialogue has already been opened to reach an agreement.

“He is an important player for us and he is becoming more important as the dates go by. We have the negotiation open and we are hopeful that he decides to extend his relationship with us,” he said, showing optimism that our compatriot will stay at the club.
On the other hand, Garcés spoke regarding what he will look for from Celta de Vigo from his position as Director of Football. “It is important to have a competitive identity that allows you to produce what the market dictates. You need a type of player who allows you to compete for things, relying on the quarry and the Galician market and if you can’t generate something, you will have to bring it in,” he added.
Renato Tapia is comfortable in Spain and will surely analyze the best outlook for his career. In the same vein as what Marco Garcés mentioned, ‘Rafa’ Benítez said yesterday that they are happy with him and the level he has been showing since he took over the title. “In the previous press conference I already said that I am very happy with him. I can tell you that we are all very happy with him,” said the Spanish coach.
Regarding his numbers, Renato Tapia arrived at Celta de Vigo in August 2020 from Feyenoord. Since then, in a total of three and a half seasons, the 28-year-old midfielder played in 108 official matches – counting all competitions –, providing two assists in 6,640 minutes played. In the 2023-24 season he has accumulated 13 duels, 11 for LaLiga and two for the Copa del Rey.
