The European Commission officially announced the inclusion of the name of Kuwait in the list List of countries whose nationals will be exempt from Schengen visaaccording to the Kuwait News Agency “KUNA”.
The Commission said in a statement that this step paves the way for the start of a series of official final negotiations between Kuwait and the European Union to exempt Kuwaitis from the “Schengen”.
She added that once the final approval is given, Kuwaiti nationals holding biometric passports will not need to obtain a prior visa to reside for family, business or tourism purposes in the Schengen area for a period of up to 90 days from the date of entry in every six months.
“Our proposal represents a first step in facilitating the travel of people from the entire region to the Union,” said Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
He pointed out that the ultimate goal is to ensure regional cohesion and achieve visa-free travel for all countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in a way that enhances the comprehensive partnership and cooperation between the Union and the Council.
