Their rallying would indeed make the agreement more inclusive but would also raise new difficulties: these two personalities supported the 2021 coup. What might therefore be their role in the appointment of the Prime Minister and the future government supposed to turn the page of the military junta? A tricky question.

As for the resistance committees, linchpins of the revolution, but also absent from the list of signatories in December, they still refuse any discussion with the military even if some continue to plead for their rallying.

The framework agreement also left unresolved the five most difficult issues to resolve and which condition the success or otherwise of the transition: the revision of the Juba agreements, the dismantling of the old regime, the situation in the east Sudan, transitional justice and security sector reform. These topics are to be discussed in a series of workshops before a final agreement is signed. However, three out of five workshops have taken place so far. Above all, the recommendations resulting from these meetings, which should serve as a roadmap for the future government, will not be binding…
