After several complaints and requests to Sanitas without obtaining a favorable response, Jackeline Martínez publicly denounces alleged negligence on the part of the EPS and, she claims, they have not given adequate attention to her adopted daughter, María Angélica Grandeth. The woman claims that she has faced numerous obstacles in seeking proper medical care for her daughter and she is desperate at the lack of positive response from health authorities.
According to Jackeline, her daughter’s medical odyssey began in 2019, when she was referred to a hospital in Medellín due to her complicated medical history and pathologies. However, she mentions that the family sometimes had to pay for accommodation, food and transportation, since the services provided by the EPS were not optimal for her daughter’s situation. María Angélica’s orphan illnesses, including a mitochondrial disease, have required specialized medical care. The mother comments that, despite repeated efforts and visits to different health entities, they have not been able to obtain adequate care: she denounces lack of hygiene and sanitary conditions in the transit homes to which the EPS sent them, in addition, He claims that he has had to cover the costs of accommodation on trips that are strictly to meet María Angélica’s medical appointments, among other alleged irregularities.
“If something happens to my daughter it is due to the negligence of Sanitas, due to all the anger that makes me get sick. We are fighting for her rights, for the orphan diseases that she presents and that Sanitas ignores. We have gone to the Ombudsman’s Office, the Health Superintendence, the Attorney General’s Office, but they ignore it and my daughter is dying slowly because they are orphan diseases.”
Given the facts, they filed complaints with the Health Superintendency and a guardianship before a judge, but, according to the mother, both agreed with the EPS, ensuring that the patient was being given proper care. In addition, she assures that contracts have been suddenly canceled for health service providers that María Angélica requires, which has generated great uncertainty regarding the completion of medical requests and vital treatments for the patient.
Despite the rulings of the Superintendency and a judge in favor of the EPS, Jackeline assures that she has evidence that shows that her daughter is not receiving the care she requires and will continue fighting to achieve it.
