New Delhi ∙ Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra made history in the athletics rankings. Neeraj tops the world rankings in men’s javelin throw. Neeraj is the first Indian to be ranked number one in the world in any category of athletics.
Earlier in the month, Neeraj had won gold in the Diamond League Athletics held in Doha with a performance of 88.67 meters. This is what gave the twenty-five-year-old Neeraj a jump in the rankings. Neeraj also holds the world record in men’s javelin throw this season.
Neeraj Chopra topped the rankings by surpassing world champion Andersen Peterson of Granada. Neeraj has secured 1455 ranking points while Peterson has 1433 points. Other Indian players such as Rohit Yadav are at 15th position and DP Manu is at 17th position.
