Neeraj Chopra: Indian Javelin Star Shortlisted for World Athlete of the Year

New Delhi: Indian star Neeraj Chopra has been shortlisted for the World Athlete of the Year, one of the biggest sports awards in the world. Neeraj, who won the Olympic gold in javelin throw for India, is also the world champion in this event.

There are five players in the final round. Apart from Neeraj, US shot putter Ryan Krauser, Sweden’s pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, Kenya’s marathon world champion Kelvin Kiptam and US speedster Nova Lyles are on the list.

The award winner will be announced on December 11. The award winner is decided by voting. So far, no Indian athlete has won the World Athlete of the Year award. If Neeraj wins the award, it will become history. Last time the award was won by Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis. The star is in the list this time too.

A gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj has also won gold in the javelin throw at the World Championships, Diamond League, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships.
