Asuncion, IP Agency.- The city of Pilar will have a new hospital for maternal and child care that will be opened in the coming weeks, in addition to plans to expand the oncological care incorporated in the last year in the department of Ñeembucú.

The hospital for maternal and child care is a large-scale project that will allow for decompression of care at the Pilar Regional Hospital, said the director of the XII Health Region, Jorge Espínola.

The new pavilion is under construction with an investment of G. 200 million by the Government of Ñeembucú. While the medical equipment and furniture will be provided by the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY) with an investment of USD 2 million.

The construction of the new space will allow for comprehensive health care for women and children, with medical clinic, dentistry, mental health services, among others. In addition, it will allow for the incorporation of new specialties to the Pilar Hospital and there are plans to build a second floor in the maternal-infant hospital for medical hospitalization, she said in an interview with Paraguay TV.

Espínola said that the Ministry of Health is working to increase the capacity of human resources to provide care. The pavilion is expected to be opened in October, he said.

Oncological treatment

“Today people are finding solutions in their department, in their country,” said the director of the Health Region. In the last 12 months, specialties that had never been available in the hospital were incorporated, he said.

Pilar Hospital has a multidisciplinary team for oncological care, to which a coloproctologist, a clinical oncologist and a clinical surgeon have been incorporated in the last year.

In addition, an Oncology Day Hospital is planned, said Dr. Espínola.

“We are working very closely with the Oncology Patients Club, and we are even planning to open an Oncology Day Hospital,” said Dr. Espínola.

“We will now have enough physical space to be able to design chairs for the oncology department and for patients who are undergoing treatment in our department to be able to do so in the city of Pilar,” he said.
