Ñeembucú: nearly 3,000 families affected by floods receive government assistance

Asunción, IP Agency.- In the midst of the floods due to the incessant rainfall in the Department of Ñeembucú, the Central Government together with the Departmental Government to date distributed nearly 3,000 food kits of 25 kilos each, providing vital assistance to 2,715 families who are in a vulnerable situation.

Delivery is carried out through the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) and Government authorities with their own resources.

This Saturday, assistance was extended to the community of Potrero González, district of Tacuaras, where some 28 families received immediate help, including the delivery of a rowing canoe for community use, thus facilitating access to their homes in the midst of the floods. .

The deployment of assistance extended across the department, covering communities in Pilar, Tacuaras, Guazucuá and San Juan de Ñeembucú. In Pilar, assistance was provided to 510 families, in Tacuaras to 649 families, in Guazucuá to 575 families, and in San Juan de Ñeembucú to 961 families. In addition, specific attention was paid to vulnerable groups such as the scrap commission and the itinerant pile commission.

Intense rainfall raised the levels of riverbeds and wetlands

The Department of Ñeembucú is an area recognized for its extensive wetlands and faces a critical situation, due to the flooding and overflowing of rivers, streams and channels due to the large fall of rain in recent weeks, exceeding the annual average in four months in some districts.

In the midst of the circumstances and scenarios, a continuous assistance deployment is being carried out to help the affected communities. The intense rainfall raised the levels of the riverbeds and wetlands, creating a critical situation for thousands of families in the region.

Preliminary data from the Departmental Secretariat of Management and Risks highlight the magnitude of the rains recorded in the department of Ñeembucú in the first four months of the year. Districts such as Guazucuá and Tacuaras experienced alarming levels of precipitation, reaching 76% and 60%, respectively, of the average annual rainfall. In Pilar, the situation is no less worrying, with 45.3% of the annual average recorded in just four months.
