MEDEA – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, stressed, Saturday in Medea, the need to move towards a “reference” farming system, making it possible to meet the challenge of food security and participate in the economic development of the country.

“A review of the mode of organization and operation of the pilot farms created from the mid-1980s has become essential, even vital, given the current global economic context,” said the minister on the sidelines of an inspection visit to a farm specializing in arboriculture located in the municipality of Benchicao.

Mr. Henni considered it “imperative” to introduce changes in the method of organization, management and operation of these farms by preparing the conditions for their transition to farms of “modern and efficient reference, and above all able to bring added value to the agricultural sector and the economy of the country”, he explained.

The transition to this new mode of management is the “suitable solution to ensure a revival of productivity” of the farms, specified Mr. Henni who also expressed the efforts undertaken to strengthen the public-private partnership in different segments of agricultural activity, with the aim of optimizing the existing agricultural potential.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development had moved, at the start of his visit to Médéa, to the civil protection intervention unit of Ouzera, east of Médéa, to inquire regarding the local system for fighting once morest forest fires.

He took the opportunity to emphasize the need to maintain a permanent level of vigilance throughout the period of great heat in order to preserve the forest heritage and avoid possible human losses.

“We must remain constantly on alert and able to act quickly in the face of potential risks of fire outbreaks”, underlined the Minister, assuring that the national forest fire control system has made it possible to “limit” losses in forest cover so far and to “protect” residents living near forest areas.

He indicated that the “coordinated” action of the various parties involved in this system has prevented the country from recording losses as significant as those recorded in 2021, with the destruction of more than one hundred thousand hectares of plant and forest cover, and 27 thousand hectares, the following year, thanks to “good preparation and the mobilization of significant logistical and human resources”.
