**Interview with Mokhtar Didouche, Minister of Tourism and Crafts**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Minister Didouche. On this National Artisan Day, you emphasized the importance of crafts in Algeria’s economic development. Can you elaborate on how the crafts sector specifically contributes to the economy?
**Didouche:** Thank you for having me. The crafts sector is vital as it not only preserves our cultural heritage but also provides significant employment opportunities, especially for young people. Currently, we have nearly 460,000 craft activities across the country. This diversity translates into job creation and supports our goals of diversifying the economy beyond hydrocarbons.
**Editor:** That’s impressive. You mentioned the government’s action plan and President Tebboune’s commitments. What specific measures are being implemented to support artisans?
**Didouche:** We are focusing on providing artisans with better access to resources and training programs. Our goal is to ensure that they can enhance their skills and produce high-quality products that can compete both locally and internationally. Additionally, we’re working on improving market access for these artisans so that their products reach a wider audience.
**Editor:** In your speech, you urged artisans to contribute to development. What role do you envision for them in this process?
**Didouche:** Artisans play a crucial role in driving economic development. By embracing innovative practices and collaborating with modern industries, they can help bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. I encourage artisans to align themselves with national development strategies and to be proactive in finding new markets for their crafts. Their creativity and skills are fundamental to our vision for a prosperous economic future.
**Editor:** Thank you, Minister Didouche, for your insights. It is reassuring to see the government’s commitment to supporting artisans and promoting crafts in Algeria.
**Didouche:** Thank you. It’s imperative we continue to nurture this sector for the benefit of our economy and culture.
