Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya raised the topic of undermining the Nord Stream during the special session of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine. He said that those responsible for what happened will have to answer for sabotage.
“The involvement of the West in the conflict (Russia and Ukraine.— “uh”) from an indirect one is increasingly developing into a direct one, and the consequences of this are becoming noticeable everywhere. From the food and energy crisis provoked by Western sanctions to the undermining of the Nord Stream, which, of course, will have to be answered in any case,” Mr. Nebenzya said. The event was broadcast on the UN website.
During the special session, the Russian diplomat also said that Russia perceives the events in Ukraine as a “war with the West for survival.” He criticized the peace initiatives proposed by the West and Ukraine, as they “actually come down to the surrender of Russia.”
The day before, on February 22, a meeting was held in the UN Security Council dedicated to undermining the Nord Streams. Russia initiated it following the publication of American journalist Seymour Hersh regarding US involvement in sabotage. Mr. Nebenzia at the meeting accused Denmark, Germany and Sweden of “covering up the tracks” during the investigation. The United States denies involvement in the undermining of the Nord Stream. Its representative at the meeting of the Security Council called the incident with gas pipelines unacceptable.
