Nearly one hundred construction sites throughout Belgium will be open to the public during the 16th edition of the Open Construction Site Day organized this Sunday. On the program for this day organized by the Embuild construction federation: major infrastructure works, housing construction and renovations, among others.

The day aims to show visitors “how innovative construction is and can offer sustainable solutions for housing, mobility and climate, among others”, said Embuild managing director Niko Demeester.

The construction of a new courthouse in Namur, the renovation of the Vandeuren district in Ixelles or the construction of housing in the Ardennes village of Lavacherie in the province of Luxembourg are among the sites physically or virtually accessible to visitors. The full list of these projects is available on the event’s website.

In a press release, the Embuild federation on Sunday called on the public authorities to double the share of investment in the country’s infrastructure to compensate for divestment in recent years. Major works are needed on roads and cycle paths, but also on the rail network, public facilities, schools, hospitals, etc., believes Embuild.

The federation would like public investment to reach 4% of GDP by 2029, once morest 2.7% currently.

The previous edition of Open Building Sites Day attracted 54,000 face-to-face visitors and 141,000 online.
