The government launched a “grabbing talents” plan earlier, which has aroused widespread discussion in the society. Sun Yuhan, Secretary of the Labor and Welfare Bureau, said today (9th) that since the launch of the high-end talent pass program on December 18 last year, the response has exceeded expectations. So far, nearly 3,800 applications have been received, and regarding 60% of them have been approved. The talents recruited by Hong Kong revolve around 8 fields, including innovation and technology, and each has its own advantages compared with Singapore.
Sun Yuhan, who just finished her visit to Singapore, said in an interview with local media that Hong Kong hopes to attract talents mainly around the eight fields that the central government supports Hong Kong’s development in the 14th Five-Year Plan, including international financial center, international innovation and technology center, Chinese and foreign Cultural and Art Exchange Center, International Trade Center, International Shipping Center, International Aviation Hub, Asia-Pacific International Legal and Dispute Resolution Service Center, and Regional Intellectual Property Trade Center. Among them, the fields of innovation and technology are particularly important. They believe that talents value opportunities. With the relaxation of epidemic control in Hong Kong and the mainland, Hong Kong’s advantages of “relying on the motherland and connecting the world” will become clearer, and the economic growth trend of the mainland will become a huge driving force.
Sun Yuhan also pointed out that Singapore is a pioneer in attracting talents. In fact, Hong Kong and Singapore have more complementary fields than competition. Some companies that have developed very successfully in Hong Kong have transferred to Singapore, and Singaporean entrepreneurs have also gone to Hong Kong to expand their business. Each city leverages its respective strengths to create greater returns.
