AFor the first eight months of 2022, Morocco’s airports continue to show improved recovery rates compared to the same period of 2019, welcoming 74% of passengers and 78% of airport movements, indicates the Office in a statement.
During the month of August 2022, the airports of the Kingdom recorded a volume of commercial traffic of 2,473,495 passengers and 18,918 airport movements, i.e. recovery rates, respectively, of 94% and 91% compared to the same period. of the year 2019, specifies the same source.
Casablanca Mohammed V airport, the kingdom’s leading airport platform, welcomed 4,659,571 passengers via 42,288 flights at the end of August, i.e. recovery rates of around 67% and 69% respectively compared to the same period of 2019 .
During the month of August, this airport recorded air traffic of 957,146 passengers through 7,522 flights, representing 82% of passenger air traffic and 79% of flights recorded during the month of August 2019.
And to note that most airports have reached, or even exceeded, during the last month, the volume of air passenger traffic recorded during the same period of 2019.
A green summer season
This upward trend was observed from the start of the summer season, noted ONDA, adding that during the period from June 5 to the end of August, several airports exceeded the level of activity of 2019, recording recovery rates. which exceed 100% (Agadir: 111%, Tangier: 127%, Fez: 115%, Nador: 142%, Oujda: 129%, Tetouan: 359% and Essaouira: 139%).
Recovery is also consolidating during the first eight months for airports in the North (Tangier and Tetouan) and Oriental (Oujda and Nador) regions, which recorded recovery rates greater than or equal to 100% compared to the same period of 2019 (Tétouan: 364%, Oujda: 115%, Nador: 108%, Tangier: 100%).
Regarding domestic traffic, it recorded a recovery rate of around 67% for the period from January to the end of August with 1,334,903 passengers welcomed. In August, this rate is 76% compared to the same period of 2019, with 224,973 passengers welcomed during this month. International air traffic recorded 10,959,581 passengers at the end of August, representing a recovery rate of 74% compared to the same period of 2019.
For the month of August 2022 alone, the airports of the Kingdom welcomed 2,248,522 passengers, i.e. a recovery rate of around 97% compared to the same period of 2019. Europe, which represents more than 83 % of international air traffic, recorded during the month of August, a recovery rate of around 105% compared to August 2019.
Regarding airport movements, traffic reached 108,640 airport movements for the first eight months of 2022, which represents 78% of airport movements recorded during the same period of 2019.
During the month of August, there were 18,918 airport movements, compared to 20,678 movements recorded during the same period of 2019, representing a recovery rate of 91%. Air freight stood at 46,760 tonnes at the end of August, representing a recovery rate of 74%. During the month of August, air freight recorded a recovery rate of 80% compared to the same period of 2019, totaling 5,105 tons.
