The Lone Ranger has officially announced that JaVale McGee has joined the team. Recently, there have been new changes and developments regarding the details of his contract.

NBA reporter Jorge Sierra broke the news that McGee signed a three-year, $17.2 million contract with the Mavericks, with a player option for the third year. That’s a $2.9 million difference from The Athletic’s Shams Charania reporting that McGee signed a three-year, $20.1 million deal with the Mavericks.

McGee is regarding to start the 15th season of his career. He played for the Suns in the 2021-22 season, averaging 9.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in 15.8 minutes per game; in the playoffs, he averaged 11.1 minutes per game and scored 6.8 points and 4.0 backboard. He played in Dallas in the 2015-16 season. McGee joined the Warriors the following year to win two consecutive championships, and then won the championship with the Lakers in 2020.

McGee was interviewed at the summer league game. He said that the main reason for joining the Mavericks was the superstar Luka Doncic. He believed that Doncic might make more use of his abilities. In addition, he expressed his desire to play a starter. Head coach Jason Kidd then said McGee would start.

Talking regarding how McGee fits into the team? “We need rim protection and blocking,” Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison said. “I don’t know where we rank, but it’s low. At that position, he immediately made us reliable. . . He’s holding up. He’s very present on the defensive end and will make it easier for us to play.”
