Berlin (SID) – The Golden State Warriors have successfully started the mission of defending their title in the North American basketball professional league NBA. Led by top scorer Stephen Curry (33 points), the Warriors won 123:109 once morest superstar LeBron James and the LA Lakers.
Returnee Dennis Schröder missed the Lakers’ start to the season, in which James scored 31 points as the team’s top pitcher, due to injury. The Germany captain has to undergo surgery for problems with his right thumb and will be out for three to four weeks, according to head coach Darvin Ham.
Schröder, who won bronze with the national team at the home European Championship in September, returned to the Lakers following stints with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets. He had already played for the club in the 2020/21 season.
In the opening game, the Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 126-117. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were Boston’s top scorers with 35 points each, while James Harden also had 35 points for the 76ers.
