A new professional adventure begins for Makhtar Ndiaye. The 1997 African Champion has just signed with the Dallas Mavericks, where he will now hold the position of Director of Professional Personnel and International Recruitment. After nine years as a recruiter for the New York Knicks, Ndiaye is turning a new page in his career, this time with the Texan franchise.
The news was confirmed by a source close to the former Memphis Grizzlies player, reinforcing the rumors that were already circulating. Renowned NBA journalist Marc J. Spears also mentioned the appointment in a post on his X account: “The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be close to hiring former Knicks scout Makhtar Ndiaye as their director of pro personnel and international scouting. The former Vancouver Grizzlies center worked as a scout for the Knicks for nine years,” he said.

Makhtar Ndiaye is not the first Senegalese to leave his mark in Dallas. Before him, Amadou Gallo Fall served as the franchise’s director of recruiting and was promoted to vice president in charge of international affairs. Similarly, Ngagne Desagana Diop, the current coach of the Senegal Lions, played for the Mavericks for four seasons, from 2005 to 2009.
