NBA/Knicks confirm Kemba Walker will not play this season

New York Knicks guard Kemba Walker will not play once more this season, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who issued a statement confirming the news.

“We fully support Kemba’s decision not to play this season and prepare for the 2022-23 season, and his long-term success on the court is our primary focus,” Knicks general manager Leon Rose said in a statement.

Walker, who has returned to his hometown team, is currently and the future of the team is unclear. His contract with the Knicks expires next summer, and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, may discuss the possibility of a trade for Walker during the offseason.

Walker was traded from the Celtics to the Thunder in the offseason last year and joined the Knicks following being bought out by the Thunder in August, but his performance this season was poor, leaving him averaging 11.6 points, 3.5 assists and 40.3 shooting. %, playing time of 25.6 minutes is a career low, far from the career high of 25.6 in the 2018-19 season.
