Andre Iguodala, 38, who won his fourth career title with the Warriors this year, has not yet decided whether to continue the 2022-23 season or retire.
Recently, “The Athletic” Warriors reporter Slater (Anthony Slater) reported that Iguodala has no interest in coaching, and if he stays on the team, he will only be on the roster, just like Heat veteran Udonis Haslem. He signed a contract with the Heat for one year, for which he accounted for one place on the roster, which caused criticism from all walks of life.
“Iguodala’s situation is different from Hassler, who actually accepts the role of assistant coach as a player, but Iguodala doesn’t do that.” Slater pointed out, “He has said before that if he can’t Come on, he’ll leave the game, he’s not interested in staying on the team as an assistant. So the only way for the Warriors to keep Iguodala on the team is to put him on the roster for the new season.”
Iguodala joined the Warriors in 2013, left briefly from 2019 to 2021, and returned to the Warriors in the 2021-22 season. So far, he has participated in the Warriors’ 4 championship journeys and was elected as the 2015 Finals MVP. Iguodala has been plagued by neck injuries for a long time. He only played in 31 routine games last season, averaging 4.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Although he can’t bring much help to the team on the court, his role in the Warriors’ lounge is very critical. Head coach Steve Kerr has said that he is the best mentor for young players on the team.
Slater believes that “Iguodala explored a lot of areas outside the game of basketball and achieved incredible success later in his career. Once he chooses to retire, he will never be idle. He has a lot of things to do.”
