NBA 2K23 Reveals ‘Jordan Challenge’ Details Revealed

2K has revealed details and features of the Jordan Challenge mode, which will be featured in NBA 2K23, the NBA video game simulation series set to launch on the 9th of next month.

Returning following nearly a decade, the Jordan Challenge brings you 15 moments from Michael Jordan’s legendary career with innovative features.

From the 1982 NCAA National Championship to the 1998 NBA Finals, a bygone era has been reimagined, and each challenge includes pre-match interviews with celebrities that make every game so special.

In addition, a complete directing package has been prepared to deliver the look, feel and sound of the time with a video filter system that recreates the television broadcasting experience of the 1980s and 1990s.

There are also changes to the main gameplay to suit each era. The 1980s focused on post- and midrange games, with players using their numerical advantage to target the post and tighter transition lanes rather than mid-range shots near the 3-point line seen in today’s NBA.

New signature styles such as all-new jump shots, layups and dunks have been upgraded to match contemporary masters like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, and more physical properties of the floor and paint zones have been modeled.

In addition, the rules that accurately reflect the basketball of the 1990s, such as the ‘Jordan Rule’, a famous defensive strategy used by the Detroit Pistons to block Jordan’s ‘Bad Boys’, hand-checking and powerful body-up that feel different from today’s one-on-one matches are unfolding.

“The Jordan Challenge completely reimagines 2K11’s Challenges and adds five more immersive experiences like any NBA 2K fan experience,” said Erick Boenisch, VP of NBA Development, 2K and Visual Concepts. “When creating the Jordan Challenge, the team considered every aspect of the stadium, players, broadcasting, and game style of the time in order to deliver the game experience of the 1980s to fans.”
